Ground Segment Systems Engineer - Oxfordshire, United Kingdom

Acorn Recruitment is working on behalf of a leading engineering consultancy firm with demonstrated expertise in space and secure software solutions. Their core components and testing facilities enable space engineers to efficiently develop ground systems solutions for any satellite platform, for pre-and post-launch phases, and for all mission types.

We are currently seeking a Ground Segment System Engineer to be based at their offices near Oxford.

Role Description

As a Ground Segment Systems Engineer you will have the opportunity to be involved in the development and operations of the ground control segment where you will contribute to the development, maintenance and validation of mission control systems used in an innovative space mission.

Tasks and Activities

*Defining the requirements and the design of ground segment systems for given space missions

*Development and configuration of the mission control system

*Definition and maintenance of mission-control operations procedures, including system and ground segment procedures and operations guides

*Prepare manual and automated Operational Procedures

*Design and implemented manual and automated system test procedures

*Support Ground Segment verification, validation and integration

*Participation in the System Operations Validation Test (SOV) and Simulation Programmes

*Spacecraft Data Base (SDB) development and maintenance

*Integration and test of systems and supporting the launch and operations

Skills and Experience

The following skills and experience are mandatory

*University degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline, with at least three years' experience in the field of spacecraft and ground segment operations engineering with specific experience in:

oSatellite operation preparation and routine operations phases (ideally using MOIS)

oSatellite TM/TC Databases management in the frame of the operation preparation phase (e.g. SCOS-MIB)

oExperience on Operation Preparation tools such as procedure editor and databases management tools

oExperience in Mission Automation Scripts - Ground and Space Segment (e.g. using MOIS)

*Familiarity with the definition of operational interfaces and interactions with industry or external partners

*Experience with Mission Control Systems (e.g. SCOS-2000)

*Familiarity with On-board Control Procedures

*Familiarity with the integration and validation phases of the Ground segment

*Familiarity with Satellite operations planning and operation (ideally LEO)

The following skills would be highly desirable

*Knowledge of the ECSS E-70-41: Telemetry & Telecommand Packet Utilisation standard

*Knowledge of the mission control systems SCOS and OBSM application

*Knowledge of the mission control systems SCOS MIB and SCOS MIB editors (e.g. DABYS)

*Knowledge of SQL and database management tools

*Some programming and scripting skills would also be an asset
