Christmas card competition boost to NSPCC campaign

Acorn is pleased to announce the winner of our Wales-wide competition is Matthew Lee, aged 9, a pupil at St Marys RC, Bridgend.

Welsh schoolchildren are being offered a unique chance to have their design for Christmas card used this year by one of Wales's biggest companies - in a competition that will also deliver a major publicity boost to the NSPCC's Full Stop campaign.

Acorn, Wales's largest recruitment and training firm, has invited hundreds of schools to send in their pupils' designs for a 2005 company Christmas card.

The card will be used by Acorn this festive season, and delivered to thousands of Acorn clients and friends throughout the UK.

The winning pupil will be invited to Acorn's South Wales head office before travelling to the printing company to see his or her card roll off the presses.

As part of its role as Wales's first Corporate sponsor of the NSPCC Full Stop Appeal - which has seen Acorn pledge to raise £100,000 for the charity in the next decade - every card will also contain a message urging recipients to support the cause.

Hayley Stockdale-Smith, head of Acorn's education division which supplies teaching and ancillary staff to schools and colleges throughout Wales, says the response from schools across South Wales has already been fantastic.

"This is a one-off chance for a young boy or girl to have their design for a Christmas card go into full production; it'll be something they and their school will remember forever," she said.

Hayley added, "We hope that by raising awareness of the aims of the Full Stop appeal, we'll also be doing even more to support this tremendous cause."

Full Stop is the biggest charitable appeal ever attempted in the UK - aiming to raise £250m nationally, with £3m to be raised in Wales. It aims to help fight child cruelty.
