The leading West Country recruitment company, Concept Staffing, part of the Acorn Group, has proved an ‘oarsome’ support to the Bideford Pilot Gig Club and helped it secure its first racing boat.
Concept, based in Mill Street in Bideford, together with the support of other local businesses have enabled the club to purchase the second-hand racing boat ‘Mystery’ from the Charlestown Gig Club.
Established in July by four local rowers, the Bideford club has now competed in such competitions as the Looe Regatta and the Appledore Regatta Sprint races, as well as escorting the last remaining wooden hull three masted top sail schooner, the Kathleen and May, home to her berth in Bideford as part of this year’s Bideford Water Festival.
Key Account Manager for Concept Staffing, Fiona Brandi, said: “At Concept we have a strong commitment to our community. The Bideford Pilot Gig Club is new to the area and I think it’s important for us to get behind it and help it grow as a society the whole community can get involved with.”
Bideford Pilot Gig Club Secretary John Little said: “Thanks to the support of local companies like Concept Staffing, within three months of establishing the club, we have raised enough money to purchase the Mystery as well as a trailer and boat cover.
“We are currently borrowing a set of oars which Appledore Gig Club has kindly lent us. Obviously our aim is to buy our own, so we are still on the look out for further support.”
Concept Staffing has branches across Devon, Cornwall, Somerset and Wiltshire, and is the South West’s leading provider of permanent and temporary recruitment. Since 2007, Concept became part of the Acorn Group and together delivers up to 6,000 temporary and 1,700 permanent placements into 850 different client companies each week.
