Students are to be helped set up a new radio station at a Welsh university thanks to an innovative preferred supplier partnership forged with Acorn, Wales's leading recruitment and training specialist.
Newport-based Acorn, the University of Wales, Newport, and the university's Students' Union have signed a unique partnership that will provide university students with work placement opportunities during their time at the campus.
In return, the recruitment company will provide a substantial five figure annual contribution to fund extra-curricular student activities.
Elizabeth Larsson, Director of Marketing & External Affairs, University of Wales, Newport, said the first area of the university to benefit would be the new Students' Radio Station.
"The funds generated by this agreement will give this project a major boost. We hope it'll be on air soon," added Elizabeth.
She said one of the key concerns addressed by the partnership agreement had been to ensure the welfare of students and not allow work to interfere with studies.
"This agreement ensures that students are looked after well and ensures that work commitments do not coming before study.
Dan Langford, Group Marketing & Communications Director at Acorn, said, "We have enjoyed a fantastic response from students and staff since we came on board with the University of Wales, Newport.
"We are acutely aware of the financial pressure faced by today's students, and by bringing in a partner like Acorn into the university helps to ensure that students are positively looked after with opportunities for suitable part-time and temporary work to supplement their weekly finances, whilst at the same time ensuring their academic commitments are not compromised."
Acorn is recognised as the leading recruitment agency in Wales, and one of the UK's most successful independent training agencies.
Its portfolio of temporary, contract and permanent recruitment extends across a number of fields, including specialist experience in industries such as catering and hospitality, management, education, construction, technical and engineering, driving, rail, nursing, as well as in more general commercial and clerical areas; and widely across both private and public sectors.
