Acorn on target to raise £100,000 for children’s charity
Charities may be reporting significant reductions in corporate donations in the wake of the credit crunch, but one Welsh company is continuing to support a good cause close to its heart.
One fo the UK's leading recruitment and training agencies Acorn became the first recruitment company to be named a corporate patron of the NSPCC and pledged to raise £100,000 for the NSPCC Full Stop Appeal.
Now, on completion of the third year of its partnership with the charity, Acorn has raised £43,885, with gift aid bringing the total closer to £48,000.
Acorn’s group marketing director Dan Langford said: “Acorn has enjoyed a long history of supporting charity and community initiatives for both local and national causes.
“The benefits of engaging in such activity are varied and are felt by many. We are acutely aware of the reliance the NSPCC has on fundraising for it to raise awareness of cruelty to children, develop services for those affected and to change the law to help better protect the thousands of children it supports each year.
“And of course, the very sense of community and well-being aligns very directly with Acorn’s core values.
“Internally, our staff also benefit from being involved; using their charity activities in team-building and as personal development opportunities. Indeed, having their efforts redirected periodically to concentrate on fundraising often encourages a fresh outlook on daily sales and customer service activities.”
Staff in all of Acorn’s 32 branches have taken part in the fundraising, with activities ranging from World Cup sweepstakes, raffles, auctions and London Marathon runs to jewellery parties, hog roast evenings and long distance bike rides.
Marketing manager, Sarah Griffiths who co-ordinates the company’s charitable commitments said, “Over the next couple of years we are hoping to organise some additional activity, including a possible job swap scheme and a staff abseil.
“The NSPCC is an extremely worthwhile cause and we are very proud to be supporting it at both a localised and at a national level.”
Established in 1992, Acorn has branches throughout Wales, the West Country, Scotland and the North West of England.
Acorn places up to 5,500 people into around 750 different client companies each week, and delivers training to more than 3,000 individuals every year.
