defence apprentices complete two year course

Atlas Elektronik UK Ltd is celebrating the successful completion of a two year apprenticeship scheme with one of the UK’s leading recruitment and training agencies Acorn.
The naval and maritime system contractor used Acorn’s services to recruit three new members of staff and train them up as part of the Modern Apprenticeship Program.
The employees, Thomas Chick, Gareth Roberts and Craig Lloyd, recently completed the training and were presented with certificates by Acorn’s training advisor, Matthew Jones and John Appleby, Atlas Newport’s training manager
As the program, endorsed by local MP Jessica Morden, was only introduced two years ago, they become among the first in the country to complete it.
Atlas UK develops and supplies systems to the Government and defence industries around the world. This is the first time the company has carried out an apprenticeship program but say it won’t be the last. Atlas Newport’s General Manager Chris Spooner said:”the program has been a great success and the Apprentices are already making a valued contribution to our work.”
Acorn Training Adviser, Matthew Jones said: “We were delighted to work with Atlas UK to deliver this course. Thomas, Gareth and Craig all worked extremely hard during the two years training and it’s a pleasure to present them with their certificates. The apprentices were positive throughout their training program which consisted of Key skills projects and a Level 2 NVQ in Manufacturing Operations. The support given to the apprentices from the Training Manager John Appleby helped to motivate and encourage them to develop their skills within the business.”
The skills learned include operating cable making machinery and mechanical and electrical assembly. Training on Environmental, Health and Safety aspects were also an integral part of the course.
Acorn is a leading provider of training, learning and development solutions, and trains more than a 1,000 individuals each month. As well as offering apprenticeships across a wide range of work based subjects they can also create bespoke training programmes to suit any business.
