Mike Ruddock and England

Former Welsh Grand Slam rugby coach Mike Ruddock says he is flattered to be linked with the vacant English coaching job – but that he has no intention of applying.

Ruddock this year embarked on a career in business after joining Acorn, the leading recruitment and training specialist which has been one of Wales’s fastest growing companies in recent years.

Mike, the company’s Commercial Development Manager, is now playing a key role in helping the company achieve its ambition of increasing annual turnover from Ł40m to more than Ł100m in the next five years.

He said, “I’m flattered to be linked with the job to coach a former World Cup winning team – even though as an outsider. But my commitment is to the world of business these days, helping generate new business for Acorn.

“It has been a fantastic experience to date and I am delighted to say we are getting great results. Acorn is now recognised as one of the top brands in Wales and is also making massive inroads into many regions of England and Scotland.

“It’s a busy role that requires a significant commitment on my part. While I’m still very involved with the game, my efforts are being concentrated in securing success in the business world for Acorn,” he said.

Matt Southall, Acorn’s Managing Director and founder, said, “Mike brings particular skills and abilities as well as enormous respect earned during his days as one of the world’s top rugby coaches. He is a great asset.”

Established in 1992, Acorn has branches throughout South Wales, Wrexham, Bristol, Runcorn, Preston, Manchester and Edinburgh. It enjoyed a Ł38.5m turnover in 2005, and employs more than 220 staff.
