Acorn's backing for 'Built on Success' awards

Acorn Group Learning and Development Commercial Director Sarah John has led the company’s support for the prestigious Built on Success’ Awards, organised by ConstructionSkills Wales, the sector skills council for construction.
Sarah joined Jane Davidson, Welsh Assembly Minister for Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills (DELLS), to present to Anthony A Davies Ltd of Abergavenny the annual People Development Award).
Sarah said, “Acorn was delighted to be involved in an event which champions the way the construction industry is approaching people, skills and training issues. Anthony A Davies was a very worth winner of the category.”
The awards were held in recognition of the individuals and companies that have made a major contribution to improving skills and productivity in an industry that already accounts for 10 per cent of direct and indirect employment in Wales and contributes almost Ł4 billion a year to the Welsh economy.
Minister Jane Davidson said: “The Assembly Government attaches great importance to the construction sector and it’s one of our 10 key priority sectors. The construction industry makes a vital contribution to the economy of Wales and the development of a strategy for improving skills and business performance within the built environment in Wales illustrates how our joined up approach can make a real difference, to individuals, businesses and communities across Wales.
“The growth in the sector not only offers opportunities for businesses, but also offers tremendous opportunities for us to improve skills levels and to help tackle economic inactivity. However, if we are to achieve this, a co-ordinated approach is required, involving employers and their representative bodies such as sector skills councils, local authorities and others.”
