Acorn plants the seed to charge up Atraverda
Grand slam coach builds team at Abertillery based manufacturer

Advanced materials company Atraverda has called upon the team-building expertise of Acorn, Wales’ leading recruitment and training specialists.
A man with experience in forging successful teams, former Wales rugby coach Mike Ruddock has been leading bespoke sessions at the Abertillery based manufacturer.
The aim of the training programme was to build bonds between team members in order to facilitate a more dynamic entry to market of the company’s proprietary Ebonex Technology.
Mike Ruddock, Commercial Development Manager at Acorn, said:
“When we opened the sessions at Atraverda, we relied on staff participation to help us understand the business and the challenges it faced as it moved forward. Everyone joined in as we determined the company’s values, helping us to break down barriers and develop the concept of teamwork.
“Successful teams attract followers - you don’t see empty stands at a cup final. It’s the same with successful brands and companies. We have to work as a team or fail as individuals.
“Atraverda has demonstrated an investment in people that improves group dynamics with a minimal disruption to the on-going operations of the business. Additionally, the teambuilding course benefited from 70% funding by the Welsh Assembly Government.”
Vaughan Griffiths, Operations Manager, Atraverda Ltd. said:
“Businesses are time-short, especially in the manufacturing sector where we have to find ways to compete with the emerging markets of China and Eastern Europe. At Atraverda we realised we needed an experienced consultant to jump-start the process of getting our team to work together efficiently and productively.
“The sessions gave us the opportunity to see qualities in people that were not otherwise evident. Two temporary members of staff have now become full-time and are undergoing NVQ supervisor training courses, as the day exposed me to abilities not seen in the everyday work situation.”
