Acorn continues on expansion trail with Glasgow launch
Acorn, one of the UK’s leading recruitment and training companies, has strengthened its presence in Scotland with the launch of a new Glasgow-based operation.
Its new presence in the centre of Glasgow is the latest step in an ambitious UK expansion strategy that has already seen the company become a market leader in Wales, the North West and South West of England.
The Glasgow office will operate under the name of Advance Personnel Ltd, a Cheshire and Staffordshire-based subsidiary acquired by Acorn earlier this year. Advance Personnel is one of the largest employers of European Union labour in the UK.
The opening of the Glasgow office is in line with Acorn’s stated intention of increasing annual turnover to circa £100m by 2008. It also follows the opening of new branches in Gloucestershire, Devon and the North West in recent months.
Based in Newport, South Wales, Acorn is the UK partner of Synergie SA of France, one of Europe and North America’s largest recruitment companies with an annual turnover of more than €1.2 billion.
Matt Southall, Managing Director of Acorn, said, “We acquired Advance Personnel because we recognised the tremendous potential of rolling-out its successful business model into new regions of the UK, Glasgow becoming the first of these city regions we have decided on.
“The city has been on the group’s radar for some time because it offers significant opportunities for Advance Personnel, which has been at the forefront of the introduction of EU labour into the UK, gaining industry recognition and awards for its rigorous support provided to its workforce and to its clients.”
The Glasgow office will specialise in the provision of temporary and permanent blue collar staff to sectors including industrial, contract packing, food and drink, driving and construction/trades sectors.
Advance Personnel Director, Ryan Jardine said, “Glasgow is one of the most energetic cities in the UK and offers us considerable potential. With the significant backing of the Acorn Group, we anticipate the new Glasgow office will grow rapidly.”
