Acorn appoints new Communications Officer and Bids Manager

Acorn, Wales’ leading recruitment and training company, has appointed Josephine Apperley as its new Communications Officer and Stephen Newman as New Bids Manager.
Josephine’s previous experience is within the fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector, having worked for the last five years in a central marketing and communications role for The Serious Food Company, where she was involved in the re-branding of the business from Sunjuice.
She brings experience and expertise managing communications in both business-to-business and business-to-consumer environments.
In her new role Josephine will be co-ordinating the development of all Acorn’s communications, both internal and external, as the company continues on its rapid growth strategy that has seen it increase revenues by over 50% already in 2007.
Josephine said, “I will also have a particular focus on helping to integrate new businesses into the group and to capitalise on the increased profile and awareness Acorn is achieving across its new and developing markets.”
Stephen Newman has 25 years experience in the recruitment industry, having worked 17 years as a personnel and training manager, and for the last eight years at Blue Arrow where he was a Regional Support Manager.
His new role will entail identifying potential business opportunities through cross-selling and networking, preparing and presenting bids and tender opportunities across the business.
He said, “These are exciting times for Acorn, with the recent expansion of the group and continued growth we need to ensure we are maximising our ability to respond to opportunities across the UK with the most timely and professional approach.”
Dan Langford, Group Marketing Director of Acorn, added, “We’re delighted to welcome Jo and Stephen to Acorn. It’s an incredibly exciting time for us and therefore a great opportunity for them both..
“We’ve taken a long time to find the right people for these roles and we’re pleased that we’ve found two people that bring with them the necessary skills and drive to take our communications and tendering activity forward.
“Acorn is a fast-expanding company and it is crucial that we continue to attract the best people to work for us.”
Acorn is Wales’ largest recruitment and training agency, which earlier this year acquired leading North West of England recruitment firm Advance Personnel. Acorn has a turnover of circa Ł65m and has branches and training centres throughout Wales, England and Scotland.
