Principal Learning in Business Administration and Finance
(Advanced Welsh Baccalaureate)
Calling Wales’ brightest students!
Are you just completing your GSCEs studies and wondering what to do next?
Are you interested in a career in business administration and finance but unsure how to take the next step?
Acorn is looking for 15 bright, motivated students who want to start their business career now by combining an internship in a leading, local company whilst studying at college. Launching in September 2011, this programme is the first of its kind in Wales and offers you the opportunity to develop the theory and practice you will need to succeed in a business career.
To help you decide if this is the route for you we have put together some frequently asked questions, which you may want to discuss with your parents and teachers.
What qualification will I be studying towards?
Acorn and Coleg Morgannwg will be delivering the new Principal Learning Level 3 in Business Administration and Finance. This could be equivalent to three A Levels, depending on the grades achieved.
The course will include the following qualifications:
- WBQ - Advanced
- Level 3 Certificate in Customer Service
- Level 3 Certificate in Business Administration
- Level 3 Certificate in Work Skills
Will the Internship benefit me?
Working in conjunction with leading employers in Cardiff you will gain two years’ valuable work experience which will compliment the knowledge and skills you have acquired in college.
Will I be paid for this work?
No, the work experience element of the programme is unpaid but you may be able to claim travel expenses.
Where would I study?
This two year programme will be divided equally between study at Coleg Morgannwg and work experience. You will spend two days per week in college and two days per week in work. The other day will be used for personal study.
What happens if I want to go on to Higher Education after the programme?
It won’t be a problem; this qualification attracts UCAS points which are included in offers from Universities across the UK.
The programme will also give you formal recognition of the experiences and skills you have gained; this is extremely valuable when studying at Degree Level and beyond.
