Haidee Pugh, Recruitment Consultant for our Newton Abbot branch shares her mental health story about the importance of having the right support at work.
When I came to work at Acorn in 2021 my confidence was at rock bottom. I was always questioning myself and my abilities I felt everything I was doing both home and work was wrong and I had lost my sparkle. I hadn’t been here 2 months when I was diagnosed with type one diabetes and because of my low confidence and past bad experiences was convinced they would get rid of me and I got myself very worked up about it.
Acorn was amazing!
My manager was so supportive and encouraging that within a month I had full control over the diabetes. Because of the amazing way my manager and Acorn supported me through this, and really made me feel like they were on my side, my confidence began to slowly come back and just before Christmas I enrolled in a local college course.
With the support of my manager and colleagues I’ve even had the confidence to get back on the weight loss wagon and lost almost 2 stone!
I’ve been here over a year now and they people at Acorn have lifted me up so much, I still have wobble moments but have just started a new position as a Recruitment consultant looking after the SME desk and am ready to take over the world, I can’t wait to show everyone what I am capable of!
It’s amazing the impact lack of support can have on your mental health and how the right support can change your outlook on everything so look out world this girl has her sparkle back.
