Business leaders from across South Wales have felt the ‘byte’ by sleeping out to help raise funds and awareness to combat youth homelessness.
Byte Night Wales, which supports Action for Children, is the UK’s largest national corporate sleepout event, with individuals and teams from the technology and business services sectors sleeping out to raise vital funds. Taking place in The Principality Stadium for the third year running, event organisers set an ambitious fundraising target of £75,000.
Action for Children is a nationwide charity committed to safeguarding young and vulnerable homeless people. A number of businesses from across Wales took part in this year’s challenge, including KPMG, Admiral, Barclays, Capital Networks Solutions and Acorn Recruitment.
Dave Sadler, Acorn’s Head of IT Recruitment, and co-chair of Byte Night Wales said:
“Fortunately for us, whilst the weather was cold, the rain held off until the early hours of the morning. However, the estimated 80,000 youngsters sleeping on the streets night after night are outside whatever the forecast. It’s incredible how the temperature can drop at night and how awful it must make things for people who have no shelter, or even a decent coat – and look at the damage caused by Storm Callum.
“As businesspeople in Wales, we’re in an incredibly privileged position and if we’re able to do something like Byte Night which will have a real impact on youth homelessness, then I believe it’s our responsibility to do it.
“It’s great to see so many Welsh businesses getting involved in the challenge and hopefully by committing to help this cause, we can make a real difference.”
