Logan shares his Acorn Kickstart story from leaving university to applying for the role.
I graduated from the Arts University Bournemouth in the summer of 2021 with a degree in Graphic Design. To gain more experience in the design industry and to further my skillset, I decided to start looking for work immediately after graduating. I discovered the Kickstart scheme shortly after and decided to apply for a Junior Designer role at Acorn that was advertised through Kickstart.
I was successful with my application and given a contract to work with Acorn on a part-time basis within the Marketing department as a Junior Designer. After a few weeks at Acorn I was offered to increase my contract hours to full-time, which I accepted.
During my time on the Kickstart scheme at Acorn I have had a plethora of help and guidance from Fay Buttle as well as the entire Marketing team. I feel that I have grasped the overall system well, learning to work within the design systems already built. I am currently 5 months into my placement and am enjoying the role that I have been given within the team.
The Kickstart scheme has enabled me to get a role that I enjoy and covers my skillset with minimal industry experience. I believe that the experience gained will help me in the future with any endeavours that I plan on undertaking. It has allowed me to expand my portfolio and gain greater design experience after graduating.
