Can I work for Acorn when the UK leaves the EU?

The UK left the EU on 31 January 2020 and is currently in a transition period which will end on 31 December 2020.

If you are a worker from the EU, it is important that you apply to the EU Settlement Scheme so you can continue living and working in the UK. You can apply for ‘Settled’ or ‘Pre-settled’ status to ensure that you can continue to live and work in the UK after Brexit transition period ends. The application process is free, quick and easy and more than 4 million EU workers have already successfully applied.

EU workers that are resident in the UK before 31 December 2020, will have until 30 June 2021 to apply but are encouraged to do so as soon as possible.

Settled status

‘Settled’ status will apply to you if you have been resident in the UK continuously for more than 5 years and ‘Pre-settled’ status will apply to you if have been resident in the UK for less than 5 years. The application process is the same for both ‘Settled’ and ‘Pre-settled’ status.
If you are granted ‘Settled’ status, you will be able to stay in the UK indefinitely.

  • You can apply for British citizenship
  • You’ll be able to spend 5 years outside the UK without losing settled status
  • Any children born after your settled status is granted will be British citizens

Pre-settled status

If you’re granted ‘Pre-settled status’, you can stay in the UK for a further 5 years from the date your ‘Pre-settled’ status is granted.

  • You will then be able to apply for ‘Settled’ status after 5 years
  • You can spend up to 2 years outside the UK without losing your ‘Pre-settled’ status
  • Any children born after ‘Pre-settled status’ is granted are also eligible for ‘Pre-settled status’

How do I apply?

Follow the link below to apply online:

There are 3 key steps you will need to go through in order to apply:

  • Prove your identity;
  • Show that you live in the UK; and
  • Declare any criminal convictions (only serious or persistent criminality will affect an application).

If you’re successful in your application, you will be able to work in the UK, access the NHS, to enrol in education and training and access public funds (such as benefits and pensions).

The government has produced some very clear and informative documents that will give you an even better understanding of the application process. These documents can be found below:
