Acorn are looking to recruit an EHS Manager for their client, a specialist manufacturer based in Newport, South Wales.
The EHS Manager will be responsible for supporting the Company's aims and objectives relating to Environmental, Health and Safety systems, promoting high standards in all disciplines and continuous improvement activities. Furthermore, help foster a culture where EHS is at the heart of all business decisions. In addition, responsibility for ensuring compliance with all regulations and standards applicable to the design, manufacture and supply chain.
*Develop, maintain, coordinate and oversee Environmental Health & Safety programs and provide direction for the Newport operations. This will include all regulations/Directives in the European Union, UK, local, industry and any company initiatives, examples of which are;-
oDevelop Environmental, Health and Safety policies and codes of practice.
oCoordinate and lead up timely investigations into incidents; establish root causes, corrective actions and an investigation report.
oEnsure exposure to hazardous substances such as; noise, dust/fume, chemicals are minimized, measured and results acted upon.
oEnsure EHS related issues are communicated in a timely manner to Plant Manager and EMEA EHS Manager.
oSupport the Appropriation Request (AR) system ensuring EHS issues are discussed and, where applicable, action taken.
oLead the monthly EHS committee meeting with representation from the factory floor and Management.
oSupport the new employee induction process.
oLiaise with the necessary bodies both internal and external to help the company achieve its Environmental, Health & Safety Initiatives.
oProvide reports as required to management and to Company Corporate relating to the Newport's Facility Environmental, Health & Safety performance.
*Drive a sustainable culture change ensuring that all functions/layers of the business are fully engaged in EHS matters and take responsibility for their own safety as well as others (interdependent).
*Develop, implement and monitor a robust accident prevention strategy through risk assessments, near miss reporting, analysis of key data and other proactive tools.
*Support and where required drive lean manufacturing initiatives specifically those relating/impacting on EHS.
*Support, and where required develop a change management program to minimize/eliminate EHS impacts through business changes/improvements.
*Act as the subject lead on all EHS topics relating to the business and its processes such as REACH, RoHS, Battery Directive and other applicable topics.
*Maintain, and continuously improve the Environmental (ISO14001), Health and Safety (ISO45001) programs through.
*Manage the blood lead programs and other elements of the occupational health department to ensure that the business objectives are met.
*Ensure compliance with all the conditions specified in the IPPC Permit. Including the close monitoring of all business functions to ensure compliance.
*Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related tasks and goals as needed, including special projects, procedural development and other duties as assigned.
*Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops or classes; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks, participating in professional societies.
Qualifications and Experience:
*Excellent leadership skills and a good communicator.
*Experienced in change management and working in a lean manufacturing environment.
*Minimum of 3 years' experience in the 'active' management of an IPPC Permit (preferably Part A1).
*A Bachelor Degree in Environmental, Health, Safety or the Sciences
*Minimum of 5 years environmental, health, safety experience of working in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment.
*Member of professional body and appropriate professional qualification (e.g. NEBOSH Diploma, CMIOSH).
*Proven experience in the supervision/management of professional and administrative staff.
*Ability to communicate across all levels of the organization;
*Strong interpersonal, communication and influencing skills;
*Pro-active to drive for results;
*Ability to produce high quality statistical analysis.
*Planning and organizational skills.
*Strong and assertive when dealing with internal and external suppliers/customers.
*Self-motivated and ability to work on own initiate as well as being a team player.
*Highly developed oral and written communication skills
*Ability to prioritise tasks and apply urgency when needed.
