This is a fantastic opportunity to work with an established regional construction & civil engineering business. The role will see you work closely alongside an established civil engineer and will give you an opportunity to learn a lot about the role and the working environment.

What does a civil engineer do?

Civil engineers deal with the construction environment. They are involved in planning, designing, and overseeing construction and maintenance of building structures, and facilities. These could be anything from roads, bridges, tower blocks, concrete structures. Effectively they help design the work, figure out the risks, work out how the work should be carried out and then help to measure and set out the work to be carried out.

What skills would it take?

Being practically minded, wanting to understand how things work and how things are made
Someone that enjoys solving problems
Someone that has sound mathematical skills

What will I be doing?

You will maily be based out on site. Each day you will assist the senior engineer use surveying equipment that helps take measurements to both set out and also check that work has been done correctly in the right place.

You will be learning how to use a range of equipment and computer software as well as building up an understanding of the construction process.

What else do I need to know?

* The role will be 25 hours per week which can be split across 3 or 5 days.
* No experience necessary but any previous experience would be an advantage.
