Job Description
An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen for an Operations Manager to join a global organisation in Bridgwater.

The position reports into the Site Director. The position has two direct reports and an additional fourteen indirect reports.

Monday to Friday day hours and early Friday finish.

Plant and Office based.


Summary:

The role is responsible for the management of all site manufacturing and supporting maintenance activities. The role will form a key part of the UK management team responsible for the continuous improvement of processes designed to ensure ongoing customer satisfaction with product quality and availability. The role will form a key part of the team responsible for the development and improvement of site safety protocols.


Duties and Responsibilities:

* To oversee the site production and maintenance teams to achieve optimum plant performance.
* To monitor and maximise productivity output and process efficiency, making cost effective use of resources and equipment.
* To drive the achievement of optimum Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) performance within the production environment.
* To ensure that site policies and procedures are adhered to and developed, as required.
* To identify ways to continually improve process design, process efficiency and output quality.
* To take a lead role in resolving complex operational issues and/or process efficiency issues, as they arise.
* To identify training needs of direct reports and other operational staff and prepare development plans.
* To investigate and follow up on safety incidents and perform root cause analysis.
* To support site operations with process and automation improvements executed to ensure that the company continues to discharge its legal obligations as an operator of a Lower Tier COMAH registered site.
* To support the execution of the company's Safety Management System and any associated plant and site safety programmes.
* To support the company's Management of Change process, ensuring the impact and consequences of changes such as plant installations or modification are effectively managed.
* To take a lead role in the identification, planning, and execution of site CapEx projects, ensuring that that CapEx spend is managed within budget and delivered on time.
* To assist in the development of one to three year improvement plans relating to capacity availability and manufacturing processes.
* To support wider site-based operational activity to optimise customer service in the form of On Time In Full (OTIF) performance.


Requirements:

* Educated to Degree level within a relevant engineering discipline and/or holding relevant professional qualifications. Preference will be given to graduate applicants holding relevant professional qualifications, although applicants with relevant experience and time-served apprentices in electrical and mechanical maintenance disciplines who display a willingness to quickly work towards achieving any identified qualification gaps will be considered.
* Extensive experience working in a similar manufacturing environment, preferably within the chemical industry.
* Experience of working within a COMAH or other high hazard environment.
* Working knowledge of DSEAR and ATEX requirements.
* Experience in planning and implementing infrastructure and plant improvement projects.
* Experience in utilising lean manufacturing, or similar, methodologies to optimise manufacturing process efficiency.
* Excellent planning, organisational and task prioritisation skills, with the ability to self-prioritise own workload.
* Familiarity with using ERP systems (i.e., Microsoft Dynamics, SAP, Oracle or a cloud-based system) is desired.
* Experience and competence with use of the Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and experience of using reporting tools such as Power BI.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills at all organisational levels.
* Ability to demonstrate strong process-based thinking and customer focus.
* Ability and desire to embrace and drive change.
* Demonstrable analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Self-motivated, with the ability to develop strong collaborative working relationships with both internal and external customers to deliver organisational goals.
