HGV Driver / Team Leader

£14.17 - £17.71 per hour

37 hours per week

Monday to Thursday: 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM
Friday: 7:00 AM to 2:30 PM
Including bank holidays

Abergavenny or Caldicot (location may change if the service needs to relocate)

Acorn by Synergie is currently seeking to recruit an HGV Driver for our client based in Abergavenny and Caldicot. The location may change if the service needs to relocate.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive Refuse Collection Vehicles or other vehicles for recycling and waste collection in a professional manner.
    Collect various types of waste, including: food waste, garden waste, residual waste (including hygiene products), dry recycling (e.g., paper, glass) and trade waste.
  • Ensure all scheduled collections are completed, including assisted and extra allocations.
  • Maintain a current LGV license, tacho card, and up-to-date CPC.
  • Act as Team Leader, working effectively as part of the Recycling and Waste collections team. Ensure safe and efficient collections, proper use of
  • PPE, correct placement of receptacles, cleanup of any spillages, and monitoring for contamination.
  • Conduct daily safety checks of the vehicle and report any defects to your supervisor immediately.
  • Comply with Health and Safety legislation/policies and follow safe working practices, including route risk assessments, use of reversing assistants, and PPE compliance.
  • Keep route risk assessments up to date and communicate any changes to the Supervisor and other colleagues.
  • Report all accidents, incidents, and near misses promptly to your Area or Deputy Supervisor.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the vehicle and ensure it is fueled at the end of the day (preferably at Raglan or Caldicot Depot, and only use Services in emergencies).
  • Complete all required documentation accurately and timely.
  • Act as the safeguarding lead for your team and report any concerns to your Line Manager immediately.
  • Use issued technology according to guidelines, and report any defects/issues promptly.
  • Occasionally perform duties other than driving, such as loading and litter collection.
  • Be available to work outside normal working hours if necessary.
