Location: Cardiff, Public Sector

Contract: Temporary, Immediate Start

£13.47 per hour

30 hours per week 08.30 - 14.30

Acorn by Synergie is seeking an experienced Cook at a Secondary School in Cardiff within the Public Sector on behalf of the client. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a busy environment, where you will contribute to providing nutritious and delicious meals for the students and staff.

The ideal candidate will have previous cook experience, preferably within a school or other institutional setting. A valid driving license is also preferred as the role may require occasional travel between school sites. This is a temporary position with an immediate start, providing an excellent opportunity to gain experience and build your career in the Public Sector.

Key Responsibilities:

- Plan, prepare, cook and present meals to a high standard in line with school menu requirements

- Ensure that all food is prepared in accordance with food hygiene regulations and follows ingredients and portion control guidelines

- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and compliance with food safety and health and safety regulations in the kitchen

- Assist in the preparation of special dietary meals and ensure that dietary requirements are met for all students and staff

- Manage stock levels, ordering and rotation of food supplies in accordance with budget and menu requirements

- Supervise and support kitchen assistants, ensuring their tasks are carried out effectively and efficiently

- Collaborate with the wider catering team to create new menus and dishes, ensuring variety and meeting dietary requirements

- Provide excellent customer service to students and staff, responding to any queries or requests in a timely and professional manner

- Maintain accurate records of food production, wastage, and temperature checks

- Attend training sessions and meetings as required, keeping up to date with food hygiene and safety regulations and best practices

Requirements:

- Previous experience as a cook, preferably in a school or institutional setting

- A valid driving license is preferred

- Knowledge of food hygiene and safety regulations

- Ability to work well in a team and under pressure in a busy environment

- Strong communication and customer service skills

- Excellent organisational and time management skills

- A flexible approach to work and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends as required

- Basic IT skills

- A positive and proactive attitude towards learning and development
