Acorn reaction to BEIS Committee report on impact of Brexit on aerospace sector

Commenting on today’s report on the impact of Brexit on the aerospace sector by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, Lewis Fawsitt, Corporate Sales Director for Acorn Recruitment said:

“Today’s recommendation by the Committee to retain membership of the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) is a welcome one. The success of the UK aerospace industry is undeniably currently dependent on its global and European participation, and there seems to be almost universal agreement that the government should ensure custom procedures are kept to a minimum after departing the EU to avoid any damaging impact on the sector.

“The continued lack of a Brexit trade deal for the industry remains a concern – with more than 114,000 employed in the aerospace industry across the UK, there is a risk that exiting the EU will result in a question mark over future investment as our grip on this sector is weakened - making it less competitive and therefore potentially driving up costs at a crucial time.

“A long term strategy would allow the industry to plan ahead and avoid the danger that the uncertainty over the future of the UK could lead to a push of jobs abroad.”
