Acorn sends Warm Wishes to The Wallich

Acorn, one of the UK’s leading recruitment and training agencies, has partnered with The Wallich and other charities to raise awareness and collect items for those affected by homelessness.

Throughout December, we have been inviting staff, clients, and jobseekers to donate items such as warm clothes and toiletries throughout the UK, and here in Wales, we have been working with The Wallich, who work to ensure vulnerable people get accommodation and support to live safer, happier and more independent lives. We have been encouraging people to donate work clothes and smart devices such as old phones and tablets to support people in their quest to get back on track and into work.

Maria Larcombe, Acorn's Director of Operation (South), said: “Raising awareness and supporting those affected by homelessness is something everyone at Acorn feels extremely passionate about. We have been speaking to everyone we know; colleagues, friends, family, clients and jobseekers to ensure we can get as many items as possible, and I’m very grateful to all who has got involved. I’ve even been waking up to coats being left outside my front door from my neighbours!”

Back on track

Marc Jones, our Head of Operations, added: “Acorn’s Construction, Mechanical and Electrical Division has been working with The Wallich for some time now, as we recognise that as a leading recruitment agency, we must provide support to anyone keen to get back into work.”

Earlier this year, The Wallich organised an event at the Senedd for business people and politicians to explore exactly how businesses can provide employment opportunities for people who have experienced homelessness.

Bespoke training

Working directly with the charity, we recently mentored an individual who had been seriously affected by homelessness and following bespoke training on interview technique and confidence-building, we were able to find and secure a construction role for him on a high-profile development in Cardiff.

Fantastic campaign

Jan Balsdon, Director of Fundraising and Corporate Partnerships for The Wallich, said: “We’re delighted to partner with Acorn once again on this fantastic campaign and thank them for their ongoing support. The donations collected will make a huge difference to our clients and residents as they work towards independence and becoming job ready. Acorn understands the issues surrounding homelessness and have a drive, like us, to create opportunities for people who just need that little extra support to get them back on track.”

If you wish to be involved, please bring any donations to Acorn Head Office or your nearest branch.
